 Crochet workshops captivate Mumbaikars

Crochet is more than just a hobby — it’s a therapeutic escape. In today’s fast-paced digital world, people crave mindful, hands-on activities that blend creativity with calm. Crochet workshops in Mumbai offer just that, creating warm, welcoming communities where learners can slow down, make something meaningful, and rediscover the joy of handmade crafts.

The rise of DIY culture and the push for sustainable, handmade gifts have brought crochet back into the spotlight.

‘Crochet requires patience’Archana Agarwal, co-owner of a crochet toy company in Parel that also hosts workshops, says, “Crochet requires patience and a willingness to learn through trial and error. Most workshops teach holding the hook, reading patterns, understanding yarn types, and making complete small items. Anyone can learn this with a little persistence.

Children as young as 7 or 8 can begin, and there’s no upper age limit. I’ve had participants who are 65+ who found it both relaxing and rewarding .

‘Crochet helps avoid overthinking’Workshops cater to all skill levels, from beginner crash courses to themed sessions like, crochet your own bag or make your own doll, along with keychains, flowers, bookmarks, coasters, amigurumi, tapestry, blankets, clothing and festive décor.Jeenal Limbachiya, a teacher and crocheter from Matunga, says, “Crochet was always part of society, hidden and with no added value to it.

Every family owns something made out of crochet. Due to trends, people are now more aware of crochet and it is becoming more popular. Social media and curiosity have boosted workshop popularity. Crochet needs attention and interest — it helps avoid screen time, overthinking and brings peace of mind.

It’s also therapeutic and recommended by psychologists and occupational therapists, which is one of the reasons for its growing popularity.”

Aradhana Umale, a workshop curator from Bandra, shares, “The workshops are open to everyone. But I mostly see a mix of people between 16 and 30 years old — students, young professionals, creators, all looking for something beyond their daily grind. Each session is about 2.5 to 3 hours, just enough time to unwind, learn, create, and maybe make new friends.”Crochet trends going viral in 2025Chunky and oversized crocheted blankets, scarves, sweaters and cardigansGranny squares in geometric patterns, floral designs, bold colours and mixed texturesComfort and wellbeing projects like blankets, slippers, hot water bottle covers, and face scrubbiesPlaid and argyle patterns and whimsical bags with interesting designsThis workshop helped me rediscover my love for crochet.
