Two young sons of a farmer drowned in a ditch filled with water in Sambaragi village in Belagavi district of Karnataka on May 27.

Deepak, 9, and Ganesh, 7, children of Sanjay Kamble, died when they fell into a ditch filled with water on the banks of a stream.

Sand miners had dug deep trenches in the bed of the stream. The trenches were filled with water.

The children were returning home from their field when their bullock cart skid into the trenches. Their father, who was with them, could not rescue them in time.

His other son, Akshay, was injured in the fall. He was admitted to a hospital.

Athani police registered a case.
