MANGALURU: In two separate incidents, senior citizens were found dead in wells in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. The deceased have been identified as Gowramma, 84, from Sullia, and Srinivasa Acharya, 70, from Kokkada.Suryanarayana S of Varanashi House, Kalanja village in Sullia taluk, reported that his mother, Gowramma, had been suffering from chronic knee pain for over a decade. Although she was receiving treatment, her condition did not improve, and she became increasingly upset.On 13 June, around 11.15 am, Suryanarayana and his wife left for the Koti temple, leaving Gowramma alone at home. When Anupama returned around 3.00 pm, she found Gowramma missing and began searching the premises.
She found the elderly woman’s body floating in a well beside the house. The complainant was informed and rushed home to find his mother dead. An unnatural death report has been registered at Bellare Police Station under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.In another incident, Srikanta Acharya of Kokkada village, Belthangady taluk, reported the death of his father, Srinivasa Acharya, 70.
He stated in a complaint that on 12 June, Srinivasa Acharya, who was staying at Kapinabagilu in Kaukradi village, Kadaba taluk, went missing. When he did not return by nightfall, the family began searching for him. Near an uncovered well, they found his spectacles and footwear. Although they initially found nothing in the well, a second inspection the next morning revealed his body floating in the water. A case has been registered at Uppinangady Police Station under Section 194 of the BNSS.
