Two farmers were allegedly electrocuted in separate incidents within a span of 24 hours in Madanapalle division of Annamayya district, triggering public outrage over the Power Department’s gross negligence.
According to reports, one Chandrasekhar was electrocuted on Saturday (December 20, 2025) after accidentally coming into contact with a live cable that was hanging dangerously close to the ground at Enamalavaripalle in Madanapalle mandal. Farmers alleged that the fatality occurred due to poorly maintained power lines and the failure of the Power Department to conduct routine inspections.
In the second incident, Srinivasulu, a young farmer from Diguvapalli village under Musturu panchayat of Nimmanapalle mandal of Madanapalle division, was electrocuted while harvesting coconuts. He was reportedly atop a coconut tree when he came in contact with a low-hanging live wire.
The villagers accused the Transco officials of gross negligence in monitoring power lines passing through agricultural fields. Locals said that several deaths had occurred in the Madanapalle constituency over the past year due to electrocution, including incidents involving illegal electric traps laid for wildlife.
