A wedding venue in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district turned into a scene of high drama after two grooms arrived with separate wedding processions for the same bride. As tensions escalated, the police had to intervene to prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.
The incident unfolded at a banquet hall in Amroha, where the bride’s family was preparing to receive a groom and his procession from Sambhal. However, confusion and tension erupted when another fully decked-up wedding party from neighbouring Moradabad also arrived, with both sides claiming to be the rightful groom’s family.
Eyewitnesses said the unexpected “double baraat” led to heated exchanges between the two groups, with tempers flaring and fears of a physical confrontation looming large. Sensing that the situation could escalate, the bride’s family alerted the police.
When officers reached the venue, they found two decorated cars and two grooms waiting, forcing them to piece together the unusual chain of events.
The investigation revealed that the bride had initially been engaged to a relative from Moradabad. However, a recent dispute between the families led to the engagement being called off.
Despite the cancellation, the Moradabad family, having already printed and distributed wedding invitations, reportedly chose to proceed with their plans and arrived at the venue. Meanwhile, the bride’s family had swiftly arranged a new match with a groom from Sambhal and scheduled the nikah on the same date, reportedly to avoid financial losses.
After understanding the situation, the police left the final decision to the bride’s family. Standing by their revised arrangement, the family went ahead with the wedding ceremony with the Sambhal groom.
The Moradabad party, realising their claim was no longer valid, returned without further confrontation. Officials said all parties eventually reached a mutual understanding, and no legal complaint was filed.
