Two students from Hyderabad lost their lives, and five others were injured in a tragic road accident in the United Kingdom on Monday night. The crash took place in Essex city, when two cars carrying nine students collided on the A130 dual carriageway at Rayleigh Spur roundabout while returning from Ganesh Nimmajanam celebrations.

The deceased have been identified as Chaitanya Tarre (23), who died on the spot, and Rishiteja Rapolu (21), who succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The injured students were rushed to Royal London Hospital, where two of them remain in critical condition. Sai Goutham Ravulla (30) is currently on ventilation, while Nuthan Thatikayala has been left partially paralysed. Others undergoing treatment include Yuva Teja Reddy Gurram, Vamshi Golla, and Venkata Sumanth Pentyala.

According to police in Essex, the two drivers, Gopichand Batamekala and Manohar Sabbani, have been taken into custody in connection with the collision.

Chaitanya, a resident of Nadargul in Hyderabad, had completed his BTech before moving to London eight months ago for higher studies. His parents, Ailayya and Mangamma, were devastated after being informed of his death late Monday night. Rishiteja’s family in Boduppal also received the heartbreaking news the same evening.

Family members of both students have appealed to the Central and Telangana state governments to arrange for the repatriation of the bodies.
