Two motorists were killed after their vehicle was hit by a speeding private bus and dragged for 100 metres near Sirivella Metta on the national highway in the district late on Thursday night.
According to the police, the bus belonging to Sri Vari Travels hit the two-wheeler and dragged it for more than 100 metres resulting in the death of two motorists identified as Nagaiah (38), who was driving the bike, and pillion rider Subbarayudu (52). Nagaiah died instantly while Subbarayudu breathed his last while being shifted to a hospital.
The deceased hail from Kotapadu village in Nandyal district and were returning from Sirivella to their native place. All the 18 passengers travelling in the bus escaped unhurt. A case has been registered for investigation.
Roads and Buildings Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy expressed grief over the death of the motorists and asked public to be cautious while driving in view of the increasing number of road mishaps.
