Two migrant workers, including a juvenile, were arrested on Wednesday by police near Ambur town in Tirupattur for killing a farm owner in the area a few days ago.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as R. Anil Kumar, 25, and a juvenile. They are natives of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. Initial inquiry revealed that the victim, Askar Basha, 38, a farm owner, employed the duo to maintain his three-acre farm in Arangal Durgam village near Ambur town a few months ago. The duo lived in the farmland.
A few days ago, Basha visited his farm and allegedly tasked the duo with more work, which they refused to do for meager wages. Subsequently, they got into an argument with Basha and exchanged blows. In the impact, Basha fell unconscious.
As the duo got frightened of Basha’s sudden collapse, they dumped him in an unused farm well in the area and fled to their native village in U.P. During investigation, police found the migrant workers in the farm were missing since the death of Basha. Police traced the suspects’ mobile phone numbers and arrested them in their native village in the northern State. A case was registered and further probe is under way.
