Two more persons - a three-month-old child and a 40-year-old man - in Kozhikode district have been diagnosed with amoebic meningoencephalitis.

According to Health department sources, they are right now undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. They were hospitalised a few weeks ago with fever symptoms. Anaya, 9, a native of Thamarassery in the district, had died of the infection a couple of days ago. Though some of her relatives, too, were hospitalised with fever symptoms, they have all been discharged.

Meanwhile, health workers have collected samples from waterbodies near the houses of these persons in a bid to find out the source of infection. The Health department has urged people to avoid bathing in ponds and stagnant and unhygienic water sources.
