Two former staff of a jewellery showroom were arrested by Arani Taluk police in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday for decamping with 15 kgs of silver, gold and cash along with two other gang members.
Police said that they arrested two former employees of the showroom identified as S. Dinesh (24) and R. Chirajeevi (26). The duo are natives of Chittoor in A.P. Along with two other gang members, K. Prabhu (26) and B. Saravanan (35), the duo broke a grill door to access the terrace of the showroom and decamped with valuables. The gang also damaged CCTV cameras in the showroom and took the hard disk with them.
Police said on July 26 that when staff of the showroom noticed broken lockers and display panels in the outlet, they informed showroom owner S. Perumal (38), a DMK functionary. Based on an alert, a police team led by Tiruvannamalai SP M. Sudhakar inspected the spot.
After analysing CCTV footage on the route, police found that three masked persons entered the jewellery building around 10.30 p.m and left the premises around 3 a.m on July 26. Surrounded by buildings including a rice mill, the jewellery showroom does not have security personnel.
Later, police nabbed Prabhu and Saravanan from their hideout in Chittoor (A.P.). Based on information provided by arrested persons and mobile phone signals, police arrested two other suspects of the gang from Chittoor. Police also recovered around 3.5 kg of silver from the duo. A case was registered by Arani Taluk police. A probe is underway.
