The long-standing parking woes in Kannur city are set to ease with the Kannur Corporation inaugurating two state-of-the-art multi-level parking centres on November 1, Kerala Day.
Mayor Musliah Madathil said the facility at Stadium Corner, near Jawahar Stadium, will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. The second centre is at Prabhat Junction. Developed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) project, the fully-automated parking centres were constructed at a cost of ₹12.4 crore by the Pune-based Adi Soft Technology Private Limited.
The Stadium Corner centre comprises four units across six floors. In total, 124 cars can be parked, with each floor accommodating 31 vehicles. The facility near Prabhat Junction includes a six-floor single unit with a capacity for 31 cars. Works on interlocking tiles and compound wall have also been completed.
The Mayor said the new facility would significantly ease congestion, especially in the areas around Kannur railway station, where parking has been a problem for years.
