The Chikkajala police have arrested two women for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy from Hunasemaranahalli.

The accused have been identified as Hemavathi (43), a resident of Yeshwantpur and working in a salon, and Khurshid alias Kamala, 40.

The case came to light after Amaraiah, an autorickshaw driver, lodged a complaint on October 25, stating that his four-year-old son had gone missing.

Amaraiah rushed to the police station after his mother informed him that the child could not be found. Acting on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the locality, which showed a woman taking the boy away.

Based on the footage and technical inputs, the police traced and arrested both women and rescued the boy and reunited him with his family within five hours of the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Hemavathi, who had been living alone after three failed marriages, was desperate to have a child. She allegedly discussed this with Khurshid, who then allegedly conspired with her to kidnap the boy from their neighbourhood.

The police have booked the duo under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code.
