Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin had surgery on Tuesday to fix a torn ACL, which officially wraps up his regular season, as reported by Sean Shapiro from DLLS Sports. Seguin was already on long-term injured reserve, and this surgery means he’s looking at a long recovery period, likely keeping him out for at least five to six months.Seguin is currently on long-term injured reserve and is expected to be out for at least 5-6 months. The Stars are waiting for further medical clarification from Seguin’s surgeon before deciding on their next roster move. One option they’re looking at is putting the veteran center on season-ending LTIR. If that happens, Seguin wouldn’t be able to return for the playoffs, but it would give Dallas full salary cap relief on his $9.85 million cap hit.

Under the NHL’s revised LTIR rules this season, the Stars are only receiving a reduced cap benefit of just over $3.8 million.

Dallas Stars react to confirmation of Tyler Seguin’s ACL injury with focus on moving forward

The team got the news about the torn ACL in his right knee on Wednesday, December 4, 2025, which means Seguin will be out for a big chunk of the NHL season, probably the rest of it. Stars coach Glen Gulutzan also confirmed the injury update on December 4, 2025, saying, "We didn't get great news today... probably just letting everybody know that he's going to be out for a significant amount of time -- probably the rest of the season.

" Gulutzan also noted, "This is tough news for our whole group."Goaltender Jake Oettinger called Seguin irreplaceable. He showed empathy and stressed that the whole team Forwards, defensemen, and goalies needed to step up by 1% to make up for it.Captain Jamie Benn pointed out the struggle, mentioning Seguin's long recovery from hip surgery that kept him out for most of the last season, although he did play in the final game and during the Stars' playoff journey to the Western Conference finals.

Forward Roope Hintz recognized how crucial Seguin is both on the ice and off it, but he emphasized the importance of adopting a "next man up" mentality. Gulutzan pointed out that there are chances for other players like Mavrik Bourque, and he looked forward to center Matt Duchene coming back from an upper-body injury he got in mid-October. If things keep improving, Duchene's return could happen sooner to help cover the gap.He emphasized a forward momentum strategy, stating, "There's lots of injuries piling up and lots of games, so we just got to keep moving forward... It's next guy up, next guy's opportunity and run with it. That's what good teams do is they just keep pushing forward with the players that they have."Nathan Bastian took Seguin's spot in the lineup, and Benn moved to right wing next to Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, with that line helping score two of the Stars' three goals.Gulutzan noted, "It's a tough day for us today with the news, but other guys now have to step in and play... [Nathan Bastian] comes in. He gets to play against his old team and he's played good hockey for us this year, too... The rest of the league is in the same boat. There's lots of injuries piling up, and lots of games, so we just got to keep moving forward."In Dallas, the emphasis is now on how the team adjusts rather than what they’ve lost. Choices regarding long-term injured reserve, lineup changes, and internal substitutes will influence the Stars’ journey in the months ahead, as the squad relies on depth, adaptability, and toughness to remain competitive despite facing another significant challenge. Also Read: Vancouver Canucks trade captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild just one season after naming him captain
