Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Milind Narvekar has advocated for a state-of-the-art hospital to be built on a portion of the Mulund dumping ground in Mumbai.

This push comes as other city land, specifically 124.3 acres at the Deonar garbage dump, has already been allocated for the Dharavi redevelopment project.

In a letter sent to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on September 13, Narvekar reminded him of a previous request from January 31. He is seeking at least five acres of the 42-acre Mulund site to be reserved for an affordable cancer or eye-care hospital.

The letter highlights the shortage of healthcare facilities in Mumbai's eastern suburbs. Narvekar argues that a new hospital would ease the burden on public hospitals like Tata Cancer, KEM, Nair and Lokmanya Tilak, which are currently strained by a high volume of patients.

He suggests the project could be a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with leading healthcare institutions like Reliance, Wockhardt, Lilavati, Hiranandani or with prestigious health institutions from cities like Delhi, Chennai, or Bengaluru.

The letter urges a quick and positive decision to allocate the five acres of land for the hospital's construction.
