Bayern Munich open their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night with a blockbuster clash against Club World Cup winners Chelsea at the Allianz Arena. The match promises added spice with Harry Kane once again facing familiar English rivals. The England captain, who spent a decade leading Tottenham’s attack, admitted that games against former Premier League rivals still carry an edge.

Kane, who has scored 93 goals in 101 appearances since joining Bayern, acknowledged he did not expect such prolific numbers. “I always back myself to score goals but I didn’t know how it would go. The style suits me well. I’ve got a lot of confidence right now and I’m physically and mentally strong,” he said, as quoted by AFP. Bayern manager Vincent Kompany insisted the contest is not about league rivalries, despite Premier League clubs continuing to lure Bundesliga talent. Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, meanwhile, was clear about Bayern’s status. “I see Bayern together with three or four different clubs as the favourites for this competition,” he said.
