External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday stated that the global challenges the world is facing today, such as pandemics, terrorism, economic instability, and climate change, are “interconnected," highlighting the need for greater cooperation among nations.
Addressing the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries’ (UNTCC) Chiefs’ Conclave in Delhi, Jaishankar said, “The global challenges we face – from pandemics to terrorism, and economic instability to climate change – these challenges are interconnected and they transcend national borders"
Underscoring the United Nations’ central role in fostering collective action, the EAM urged countries to rise above geopolitical competition and focus on shared solutions. He also reiterated the need for comprehensive reforms in the UN to effectively address the global issues.

“Our responses, therefore, must be more co-operation, transcending the competitive aspects of international politics. The natural starting point for such collaboration is the United Nations…," he remarked.
EAM Calls For UN Reforms
The Foreign Minister further shared some key insights from his experiences at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.
“One, the United Nations today still reflects the realities of 1945, not of 2025. Eighty years is a long time by any standards, and during this period the UN membership has actually quadrupled. Two, institutions that fail to adapt risk irrelevance, not just irrelevance but eroding legitimacy, and leaving us without recourse in times of uncertainty. Three, for the UN to be effective, it must reform – becoming more inclusive, democratic, participative, and as I said, representative of today’s world. And four, it must amplify the voices of the developing world and reflect the aspirations of a rising Global South. The UN’s legitimacy, and I would say the UN’s credibility depends on it doing so," he added.
The three-day event, which began on October 14, was hosted by the Indian Army in New Delhi. The conclave, bringing together senior military leadership from 32 nations to deliberate on operational challenges, evolving threats, share best practices and build shared understanding on future peacekeeping.
The UNTCC acts as an important platform to address practical challenges, evolving threats, better coordination among forces, inclusivity in decision-making, and the use of technology and training to make UN peacekeeping more effective.
