UOH convocation on June 10

Himanshu Pathak, Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Hyderabad, will deliver the convocation address at the 14th convocation of the University of Horticulture Sciences in Bagalkot on June 10.

Vice-Chancellor Vishnu Vardhan told reporters in Bagalkot on Friday that 508 BSc Horticulture and BTech students, 144 postgraduate students in 10 departments in the MSc degree program, and 42 PhD students would be conferred degrees at the convocation. The event will be held at the UOH auditorium in Udayagiri.

UOH Bagalkot is the only horticulture university in the state and third such institution in the country. Nearly 2,800 students are studying in various colleges of UOH. They include 2,302 in B.Sc Horticulture degree, 123 in B.Tech degree, 266 in M.Sc degree, 75 in PhD and 33 in Diploma, are studying in 10 colleges. Out of these, 53.63 per cent are girls. A total of 315 teachers and 433 non-teaching staff are working in the university. The Vice-Chancellor said that a new Horticulture College has been established in Alamel in Vijayapura district last year.

To a query, the Vice-Chancellor said the State government had asked the university to return 22 acres of allotted land to the government medical college. We are seeking five acre land in Kudala Sangama, he said.

Governor and Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot , S.S. Mallikarjun, Minister for Horticulture, Registrar Mahadev Muragi, Director of Education N.K. Hegde, Director of Research B. Fakhruddin, Director of Extension Venkateshalu and others will be present at the convocation.
