UP man stabs wife with scissors in front of children, wanted to marry his aunt

A man in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, brutally killed his wife with scissors in front of their children following her refusal to grant him a divorce. The husband, who runs a medical store, wanted to marry his aunt, but his wife opposed the idea.

The incident occurred late Sunday night when Nafees arrived at his wife Najma’s rented home in Mandi Kishan Das Sarai, Sambhal. A heated argument broke out between the couple, which ended with Nafees stabbing Najma with scissors in front of their children.

After attacking his wife, Nafees attempted suicide by inflicting injuries on himself with the same scissors. Neighbours intervened after hearing the commotion and stopped him from taking his own life. Both were taken to Sambhal district hospital for treatment.

Najma, who worked as an Asha worker, had been living separately from her husband for some time. She moved out with their four children after discovering Nafees was involved in a relationship with his aunt. Nafees had been pressuring Najma to grant him a divorce so he could marry his aunt, but Najma was unwilling to agree.

The couple had been married for 15 years and had lived in Sarayateen town under Hayatnagar police station in Sambhal for the past four years. Nafees operated a medical store nearby. Tensions between them had been ongoing for two years, during which Najma continued her work while living separately.

Police arrived at the scene promptly after receiving information about the crime. They recovered the scissors used in the attack and registered a case against Nafees based on a complaint filed by Najma’s husband Akil. Investigations are ongoing, including questioning Nafees’s aunt, who is reportedly involved.

A colleague of the deceased Asha worker stated that the couple had been fighting for two years. Najma wished to live with her husband, but he refused, insisting on his relationship with his aunt. The colleague also mentioned that Nafees opposed Najma’s job as an Asha worker.

Senior police officials confirmed the registration of the murder case and assured that the investigation is underway. The post-mortem of the deceased has been completed, and further legal proceedings will follow as the probe continues.
