AGRA: A couple died and their children sustained critical injuries after a speeding Uttar Pradesh roadways bus hit their motorcycle from behind and dragged it for nearly 30–40 metres on the Delhi–Aligarh highway in Aligarh district around 10am on Tuesday.
The family, residents of Khanpur in Delhi, was travelling to their ancestral home in Mainpuri for Diwali.After the incident, residents chased the bus, prompting the driver to abandon it and flee the spot. Police reached the site and took the four victims to hospital, where Vikram Singh, 40, and his wife Nisha Singh, 38, succumbed to their injuries. Their two children, Sejal, 12, and Dhanraj, 11, remain in critical condition.
Vikram's brother Vishal Singh said, "He worked as a security guard in Delhi. They were coming home to celebrate the upcoming festivals."Roravar SHO Vijay Singh said, "The family left Delhi early Tuesday morning to celebrate Diwali with their kin. The bodies were handed over to the victims' relatives after the post-mortem." DSP Mayank Pathak added, "We will register a case once a formal complaint is received. The bus has been seized, and efforts are ongoing to trace the driver."
