A student of Aligarh Muslim University, along with his friend, fabricated a story of his own kidnapping to extort Rs 8 lakh from his father, a retired Irrigation Department employee.

As soon as the police received this information, multiple police teams were formed to solve the kidnapping seeing the gravity of the matter. As the police developed leads in the alleged kidnapping case, they were shocked to discover that the alleged mastermind of kidnapping was the kidnapped student himself. He, along with one of his friends, plotted his own kidnapping to extort ransom from his father.

Police traced the duo within hours, exposing the planned hoax.

According to officials, the duo devised the plot after losing several lakhs in online gaming. Both students were handed over to their families, and no case was registered on the request of the student's father.

“Taking note of the seriousness of the matter, we formed four teams and traced the student along with his friend swiftly. The questioning revealed that he demanded 8 lakhs as ransom from his parents. Since he is a student, we have not registered any case in the matter” Circle Officer-II, Kamlesh Kumar said.

The student’s father acknowledged his son’s mistake and thanked the police for swift action.
