CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A farmer was arrested for allegedly strangling his 17-year-old daughter on the night of Sept 5 and subsequently trying to make her death look like a suicide at Davalwadi village in Jalna's Badnapur.Badnapur police inspector Ganesh Survase told TOI, "The man was upset with the girl for being in a relationship with a youth, also from his community. He allegedly murdered her by strangling her while she was asleep." He said the man then hanged his daughter from a metal angle of the roof using a rope to pass it off as suicide. Police said the girl was pursuing her junior college studies.

The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him in two-day police custody.Survase said the accused, who had been identified as Hari Jogdand, maintains two houses in the village.He lives with his wife and two sons in one, while his daughter, the eldest of three children, stayed with her grandmother at the second home.On Friday, around 10pm, Jogdand allegedly went to the second house, strangled the girl while she slept.Officers said discrepancies at the scene and the postmortem report, which confirmed death due to strangulation, raised suspicions. Jogdand was placed under watch.He eventually confessed during interrogation on Sept 6. He was arrested and produced before a local court.Sources said an anonymous call was made to the police, following which a team led by sub-inspector Santosh Kuklare responded.
