Upset Over Power Cut Due To Unpaid Bills, Kerala Man Removes Transformers' Fuses

A man upset over power cut in Kasaragod removed fuses from seven transformers, causing a blackout. KSEB restored supply in an hour. Police detained the man.

A man, who was allegedly upset over the disruption in power supply to his house due to non-payment of bills, removed the fuses of seven transformers, triggering a blackout in parts of Kasaragod town on Friday evening. The outage began around 6.45 pm on Friday, affecting the town and nearby areas.

“Within minutes, we received numerous calls reporting the outage. But when we checked the lines, there were no issues," a KSEB official told PTI. During inspections, staff discovered that the fuses had been removed, and later found them abandoned near the transformers.

“Some were damaged, so we had to use spare fuses to restore the electricity by 8 pm," the official added.

Residents informed KSEB personnel that they had seen a man removing the fuses. According to officials, the suspect is a resident under the Nellikuzi section and had earlier “created a scene" at the section office after his electricity connection was cut for unpaid bills.

Police took the man into custody for questioning, with officials saying he claimed to have mental health issues and was living with his elderly father. Police will decide whether to register a case once KSEB submits an official complaint. KSEB said the complaint would be filed on Saturday, noting that several fuses were damaged and the incident caused an outage lasting over an hour.
