An alleged illegal immigrant in the United States, identified as Maximiliano Perez-Perez, allegedly bit the hand of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer while resisting arrest in Louisiana, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Officials released an image purportedly showing the ICE officer’s bloodied hand following what the DHS termed as a “gross attack". The Homeland Security Department said Perez-Perez attempted to flee by pushing officers.

“He used his teeth as a weapon and clamped down on an ICE officers’ hand, breaking the skin and drawing blood," said the department, adding that the immigrant had entered the United States at an unknown date and time without being inspected by an immigration officer and was facing charges of assaulting law enforcement.

“This criminal illegal alien is being charged with assault after he savagely bit a law enforcement officer in an attempt to evade arrest. DHS law enforcement is facing a 1,150% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats," said US Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“This is the reality of what our ICE officers are facing every day as they go to work to simply do their job and enforce the law. Many of these assaults, including biting and vehicle rammings, are happening as a direct result of sanctuary politicians encouraging illegal aliens to evade arrest," she added.

The DHS said law enforcement officers were facing a more than 1150% increase in assaults against them amid US President Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration crackdown and called for politicians, agitators and media to stop calling for violence and resistance against ICE agents.

News of this arrest came on the same day that ICE released an image of a suspect accused of threatening federal agents being taken into custody by an officer from Homeland Security Investigations, according to the New York Post.

“Logan Murfin of Tulsa, OK, has been charged with ten counts after posting on social media that federal agents need to be gunned down, shot & executed," ICE wrote on X. “Welcome to the find out stage, Logan."

Violent anti-ICE protests have swept the United States in response to Trump’s surge in deportations and criminal migrant arrests. The dramatic expansion of ICE operations has upset communities in several parts of the country and raised concerns over the tactics ICE agents have used to catch alleged illegal immigrants.
