Amanda Anisimova produced one of the biggest upsets of this year’s U.S. Open on Wednesday, avenging her Wimbledon humiliation against Iga Swiatek to storm into the semi-finals.
On the men’s side, Felix Auger-Aliassime battled through a marathon quarter-final to book his second career semi-final at Flushing Meadows.
Anisimova Finds Redemption Against Swiatek
Two months after suffering the embarrassment of a double-bagel defeat to Swiatek at Wimbledon, Anisimova flipped the script in New York.
The American eighth seed delivered a composed and aggressive performance to beat the world No. 2 and reigning Wimbledon champion 6-4, 6-3 in front of a raucous Arthur Ashe crowd.
“I’ve been having the run of my life here," the 24-year-old Anisimova said, reflecting on her best-ever run at her home Slam.
Osaka Back in the Big Time
Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka continued her resurgence with a hard-fought straight-sets victory over 11th seed Karolina Muchova, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) in just under two hours.
The Japanese 23rd seed is enjoying her deepest run at a Grand Slam since winning the 2021 Australian Open.
For Osaka, who has endured injury struggles and long absences from the tour in recent years, the win marked a return to her best form on the New York stage where she has already twice lifted the trophy.
Her semi-final against Anisimova promises to be a compelling clash between two players rediscovering their momentum at just the right time.
Auger-Aliassime Battles Past De Minaur
In the men’s draw, Felix Auger-Aliassime survived a punishing four-hour battle to defeat Alex de Minaur and secure his return to the semi-finals in New York. The 25-year-old Canadian prevailed 4-6, 7-6 (9/7), 7-5, 7-6 (7/4), showing resilience in critical tie-break moments.
It marks his first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2021 U.S. Open, confirming his revival after a series of inconsistent seasons.
Auger-Aliassime now awaits the winner of the all-Italian quarter-final between Lorenzo Musetti and defending champion Jannik Sinner, who has been in imperious form all fortnight.
