VARANASI: In a major breakthrough, the Azamgarh police on Friday solved four robbery cases from two police stations and nabbed inter-district criminal Shivam Yadav after an encounter at Bagh Lakhrav village near the Tamsa river. The police recovered a motorcycle used in the crimes, Rs 5700 from the sale of stolen jewellery, and illegal weapons and cartridges.According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the Azamgarh Kotwali police team arrested Shivam, who was shot in the left leg. From his possession, a motorcycle used in the crime, a country-made pistol (.315 bore), a spent cartridge (.315 bore), a misfired live cartridge (.315 bore), and 5700 rupees from the sale of stolen goods were recovered.During interrogation, he confessed to snatching a chain and earrings from a woman on a motorcycle near Kothra Musahar Basti on September 6, snatching a bag containing a mobile phone from a woman in the Ubhaav area in Ballia district on July 23, snatching a chain from a woman in the Ubhaav area on September 16, and snatching a chain from a man on a motorcycle in Ubhaav, Ballia on September 16.Azamgarh ASP (City) Madhuban Kumar Singh said that the arrested criminal was booked in cases under sections 304, 304(2) BNS, 103(1), 309(6) of BNS at Azamgarh Kotwali and Ubhaav police station of Ballia district.
