Uttarakhand woman gang-raped by 5 in abandoned school of Piran Kaliyar, 4 held

ROORKEE: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by her acquaintance and four of his friends at an abandoned school in a village in Roorkee of Uttarakhand late on Saturday night.

The accused took turns to rape her and when she became unconscious, they fled. After she regained consciousness she approached police, following which four identified accused were arrested on Sunday morning. Another unidentified accused is on the run.One of the accused was known to her and he took her out on the pretext of going to Piran Kaliyar on Saturday afternoon. When it became dark, he took her to the abandoned school.

Three of his acquaintances later joined him and they allegedly assaulted her sexually.The survivor is from the Banjara community and is a resident of a village in Haridwar district.Police said a case has been registered against four named and one unidentified accused under BNS section 70-1 (gang rape). “Medical examination of the survivor confirmed gang-rape. All four identified accused have been arrested and produced in court. Efforts are on to trace the unidentified accused,” said Ravindra Kumar, incharge of Piran Kaliyar police station.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
