A loyal reader of The Hindu and former Executive Director of the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC), M.V. Nagavender Rao, has celebrated the newspaper’s 147th anniversary as Values Day with students of Prakasam Vidyaniketan High School at Khairatabad on Saturday. This marks one of the several years he has been celebrating Values Day with students.
Addressing the students, Mr. Rao, 78, emphasised the importance of focusing on studies, acquiring knowledge, and developing skills to perform duties efficiently.
“Each of us has to play our role in society at an optimum efficiency level to make it grow rapidly,” he said.
He also stressed on the need to cultivate the habit of reading The Hindu to stay updated on current affairs, which would also improve their English skills. Recalling his own experience, he said that his English teacher from high school suggested him to read The Hindu in 1962.
“It helped me improve my communication skills to perform better in my managerial role,” Mr. Rao said and expressed his willingness to ensure the supply of the newspaper to the school through his personal contribution.
Headmistress Sarada thanked Mr. Rao for visiting their school often to conduct counselling sessions. As the students prepared Bathukamma, a cone-shaped floral stack, Mr. Rao congratulated them for continuing Telangana’s cultural heritage.
