Derek Forbort signs new contract with Canucks

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Vancouver Canucks confirmed that Derek Forbort will stay for another year. He signed a new contract worth $2 million. This deal will cover the 2025–26 season.Forbort is 33 years old. He played 54 games for the Canucks last season. He scored 2 goals and had 9 assists. He played 35 games in the postseason. He scored 3 goals and made 2 assists during those games. Canucks GM praises Forbort’s role on the team

Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin shared his thoughts on the signing. He spoke about it on June 3, the same day the deal was announced.

“Bringing Derek back for another season is an important move for our group,” Allvin said. “His strong defensive play and solid work on the penalty kill really helped solidify our back end this past year.”Forbort is known for being tough and experienced. He is six feet four inches tall and weighs 216 pounds. He comes from Duluth, Minnesota. With the U.S. national team, he began his hockey career. 2010 saw him assist Team USA to gold at the Under-18 World Championship. 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships also saw his participation. The Los Angeles Kings chose Forbort fifteenth overall in the NHL Draft 2010.The Canucks want to stay strong in defense for the coming season. Signing Forbort again shows how much they value him.
