Vande Bharat Sleeper train: The second Vande Bharat Sleeper train rake has reached the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF). Manufactured by BEML using ICF’s technology, this semi-high-speed sleeper version marks the delivery of two out of the 10 trains awarded to BEML. The remaining eight Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are expected to be delivered by the end of the 2025-26 financial year.
Speaking to Indianexpress.com, U Subba Rao, General Manager, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has confirmed the development. “Yes, the second Vande Bharat Sleeper rake has been delivered by BEML and it arrived in ICF, Chennai,” he said.

The second rake supplied by BEML will now undergo mandatory trials before its final rollout. “The trial run will begin soon. It is an essential step for the train’s final commissioning and will be conducted by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO),” he said.
Rao further stated that during the trial run, the RDSO will conduct extensive tests, including oscillation and speed trials. He added that the second rake of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will soon be sent to the North Western Railway (NWR) zone for these trials.
Second Vande Bharat Sleeper train at ICF — Know key differences from the first rake
Several upgrades have been incorporated into the second Vande Bharat Sleeper train. “We have made significant improvements in the toilets based on feedback from the first rake. The berths have also been refined for better comfort. Additionally, some holding arms and fixtures have been repositioned for improved usability. Overall, we have come up with a much-improved product,” the GM told IndianExpress.com.
Vande Bharat Sleeper train launch
The railways has decided to launch two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains together. Last month, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified that the launch will take place only after the second train is fully ready for regular service. This train has also been manufactured by BEML using ICF technology.
