Vetri Maaran’s witty take on honorary doctorates, opens up on 'STR 49'; Says, 'You’re ragging me here'

The 16th convocation ceremony was held at a private college in Pallavaram, Chennai. Every year, outstanding individuals from the fields of cinema, sports, and industry are honored with honorary doctorates.

Last year, director S.J. Surya was honored in the cinema industry. This time, director Vetri Maaran received the recognition. Along with him, cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin and businessman A.M. Gopalan also received doctorates. Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal conferred the degrees.

Vetri Maaran shares happiness on wearing conventional attire

At the press conference held after the ceremony, Vetri Maaran answered many questions with a smile. “I couldn’t wear conventional clothes during my studies.

But I feel a little happy wearing them today," said Vetri Maaran to express his joy. When asked, "Will you add the word 'Doctor' to your name from now on?" he replied simply, "Nothing is needed. Just a name is enough."

Next, when the interesting question was raised, "Will there be fewer violent scenes in your films now that you have a doctorate?" He laughed and said, "I didn't do ragging in school or college. But you come here and do the ragging," he replied jokingly.

Then, seriously, he added, "It all depends on the story." This answer revealed his laughter and simplicity.

Vetri Maaran confirms 'STR 49'

Talking about future plans, Vetri Maaran said, “I and Isari Ganesh sir are going to start a new film together. An update on my next film will come within the next 10 days. I closed my production company due to personal reasons. After that, there were many jobs and some pressure. It was not a failure," he said. He is currently working with Simbu on a film centered on the North Chennai story world. The promo for this will be released soon.

He also has big projects in hand, namely 'Vada Chennai 2' and 'Vaadi Vaasal.'
