According to a league source who spoke to The Athletic, San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama will be reevaluated in two to three weeks after suffering a left calf injury.

The team claims that Wembanyama sustained the injury during Friday's defeat to the Golden State Warriors. Despite finishing that game, he missed San Antonio's subsequent game on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings due to what was said to be soreness in his left calf."Obviously, we've seen around this league recently, the calf-tightness thing is not something you want to take lightly," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said Sunday.

"Don't want to push it there."The 21-year-old former No. 1 overall pick is leading the league in blocked shots (3.6) and rebounds (10.9) while scoring 26.2 points per game. He spent the remainder of his winter working to "get my body back" after being cleared from that ailment early this summer.

With outstanding stats in 12 games this season, he has been outstanding.

Wembanyama shoots 50.2% from the field and 34.5% from beyond the arc while averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.6 blocks a game.Wembanyama is the focal point of the Spurs' lineup due to his flexibility on both sides of the court. San Antonio's impressive start to the season has been largely attributed to his playmaking, scoring, and defensive presence. With a 9-4 record, the Spurs are currently seventh in the Western Conference.

While its young star recovers, the team will need other players to step up.Luke Kornet, a seasoned free-agent addition, began in Wembanyama's place on Sunday and finished with three blocks and 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting. In order to stabilize the team's frontcourt during Wembanyama's absence, San Antonio especially recruited Kornet in free agency. In the victory over the Kings, Kornet finished with a plus-minus of 13.Also read: What is Victor Wembanyama’s net worth?
