A video that surfaced from Kerala’s Palakkad district showed a mob interrogating a migrant worker, asking if he was Bangladeshi, before assaulting him.
The victim, Ram Narayan Baghel from Chhattisgarh, later died from injuries sustained in the attack. Police said he was assaulted on allegations of theft, adding that no stolen property was found on him.
The CPI(M) alleged the killing was driven by racial hatred spread by the RSS.
Baghel’s Dalit family has refused to receive his body, demanding SC/ST Act charges and compensation.
