A fire erupted at East India Petroleum Chemicals in Visakhapatnam on Sunday after lightning struck a methanol storage tanker. Industrial and naval fire tenders responded swiftly, and on Monday, the Indian Navy deployed a Seaking helicopter to drop water and foam, helping to control the blaze. Dousing operations are ongoing, and fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Fire and foam tenders from industrial agencies and the Indian Navy responded promptly towards extinguishing the fire that broke out at East India Petroleum Chemicals (EIPL), Visakhapatnam on Sunday afternoon (Sep 7).On Monday (Sep 8), Indian Navy's Seaking Helicopter was deployed with an underslung fire bucket to assist in dousing the blaze.The helicopter undertook multiple sorties from INS Dega, dropping large quantities of water and foam over the seat of the fire, bringing down the temperature and suppressing the flames. The blaze has been brought under control; dousing operations are still in progress.It may be recalled that a lightning struck the methanol storage tanker of 7,500 KL capacity and sparked fire in the premises of East India Petroleum Chemicals on Sunday. There was no loss of life, no injuries to anyone within the vicinity.
