In his first-ever television interview, Pranav Adani, nephew of billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, and director of Adani Enterprises, spoke about India's most ambitious renewable energy project, which is being undertaken by the venture. Speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak, India Today Group's flagship conclave, Adani said that Adani Enterprises is working on a 30-gigawatt solar power installation spread across the desert expanse of Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat. The project, which Adani said will eventually be visible "even from the Moon". He positioned the solar power park as the world's largest renewable energy generation facility by 2030.

Khavda, a hot and previously barren stretch of land near the India–Pakistan border, has typically been considered uninhabitable. Pranav Adani said this remoteness is exactly what makes it suitable for scale and the company is putting the land to productive use. According to Pranav Adani, the site covers roughly 520 square kilometres, or five times the size of Paris.

The conglomerate, which is also involved in coal mining and thermal power generation, is simultaneously expanding its renewable energy portfolio with the Khavda project.

However, Pranav Adani also said, "Coal-based thermal power is still necessary for India's baseload demand and argued that newer ultra-supercritical technologies have significantly reduced emissions."

The Khavda facility, according to Pranav Adani, is part of a larger target of reaching 50 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030, which would significantly expand India's clean energy footprint at a time when India is positioning itself as a booming economy balancing growth with sustainability commitments.

The project seemingly reflects a global trend of building large renewable energy parks in less populated areas, and the huge land use in Kutch region's Khavda makes it one of the biggest.

Pranav Adani, however, acknowledged the challenges associated with the project, including supply chain hurdles and the difficulty of building infrastructure in harsh desert terrain. But he said these are routine for a large industrial project.

Such large-format installations will likely form the backbone of India's energy transition to green energy, grid capacity and long-term sustainability.

Pranav Adani is the Director of Adani Enterprises, the Adani Group's flagship and business incubator, overseeing a wide portfolio that includes real estate, city gas distribution, media, biogas, charging infrastructure, agriculture and natural resources.

PRANAV ADANI, ADANI GROUP'S NEXT-GENERATION LEADER

He began his career in 1999 with Adani Wilmar and today heads Adani Realty, which has developed 31 million sq ft and is building another 400 million sq ft across major cities.

He also leads the Dharavi redevelopment project and has driven the group’s entry into agri logistics and fresh produce. Under his stewardship, Adani Total Gas has become India’s largest private-sector CGD operator.

He is regarded as one of the key next-generation leaders within the Adani Group, shaping its diversification beyond core infrastructure. Known for positioning the conglomerate in newer sectors such as media, biogas and electric mobility infrastructure, Pranav Adani also represents the group at major national business forums.
