Vijay’s farewell film ‘Jana Nayagan’ before he fully turns to politics, has emerged as one of the most anticipated Indian films. On Tuesday, January 20, the Madras High Court reserved orders on CBFC’s writ appeal.
Amidst the censor row, the release of the film seems to be indefinitely postponed. If you are a fan of Vijay, the wait can feel endless, your Thalapathy has a treasure trove of action-packed gems to bridge the gap! Here are five Vijay starrer actioner films you can watch or revisit in the meantime.
'Ghilli'
You cannot really claim to be a Thalapathy Vijay fan, if you haven’t watched ‘Ghilli’. The film released in 2004, is a sports drama, with lots of action.
Directed by Dharani, the film revolves around Velu (Vijay), a passionate state-level Kabaddi player from Chennai, whose paths cross with Dhanalakshmi (Trisha), a young woman desperate to escape. With ruthless gang leader Muthupandi (Prakash Raj), as the villain, the film is a packed entertainer, with lots of action.
'Pokkiri'
Released in 2007, 'Pokkiri' directed by Prabhu Deva, is an action thriller featuring Thalapathy Vijay and Asin in lead roles.
The film follows Tamizh (Vijay), a thug, who joins Chennai's criminal underworld. The film is packed with stylish action, songs, punchlines, and even incredible twists. Don’t blame us if you become a devotee of Thalapathy Vijay after watching ‘Pokkiri’.
'Thuppakki'
When Vijay joins hands with filmmaker AR Murugadoss, you know what to expect! An explosive! In this 2012 release, Vijay essays the role of a NSG commando rooting out sleeper cells in Mumbai. From high stakes espionage to jaw-dropping action sequences and fights, this film is every actioner fan’s dream. You get emotions, songs, love track, sharp one-liners, and incredible action, all wrapped up in one!
'Kaththi'
Another AR Murugadoss-Vijay collaboration that has resulted in a blockbuster! The film released in 2014, has double the fun.
Vijay appears in two roles. The film revolves around a petty thief who assumes the identity of his lookalike Jeevanandham, a social activist fighting for farmers' rights against a corrupt corporation. The film also has Samantha and Neil Nitin Mukesh, and is an edge-of-the seat thriller.
'Leo'
Thalapathy Vijay is one of the figures that crosses your mind when it comes to stylish fights. Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has everything a true-blue fan of Vijay would wish for in his film. Stylish fights, gripping story-line, larger than life characters - you name it. The film also has an ensemble cast of Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Trisha, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Madonna Sebastian, George Maryan, Mansoor Ali Khan, Priya Anand and Mathew Thomas.
