Wanted criminal, son held with arms, Rs 45L cash

Patna: Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Patna police and Bihar Special Task Force (STF) arrested wanted criminal Lal Babu Gop and his son Abhishek alias Ajit with a huge cache of arms and ammunition as well as Rs 45 lakh cash in Nizampur village under Didarganj police station here late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.Following the tip-off that the wanted criminal was hiding at his in-laws’ place in Gaurichak police station area and plotting a major crime, the joint team, including Patna’s Didarganj police, raided both areas of the capital and recovered a pistol, two magazines, 35 bullets of two calibres, five cellphones, a tablet and Rs 45 lakh in cash from their possession. Police are now seeking judicial custody for the duo to interrogate them about their gang and criminal network.Patna (rural) superintendent of police, Vikram Sihag, said on the day that Lal Babu, who hailed from Alamganj, has a history of serious crimes, including murder, extortion and assault, with prior jail time and active cases in Alamganj and Gaurichak police stations.“A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing. Income Tax department has been informed to probe the large cash seizure,” the SP said, while addressing the media persons here on Tuesday.
