What looked like a routine jump quickly turned into a frightening fall that stunned everyone watching.Ghrieb leapt over a barrier near the track, thinking it was safe. Instead, he fell straight into a 2.7-metre concrete ditch hidden from sight. For a brief moment, the stadium atmosphere shifted from celebration to fear. Thankfully, the 26-year-old midfielder soon climbed out of the ditch, showing no signs of serious injury.

The incident happened just after Rayan Ghrieb scored FC Magdeburg’s second goal of the night. His strike came late in stoppage time and confirmed the visitors’ 2-0 win over Hertha. The video footage showed him instantly disappear from view. Nearby, the visitors' fans reacted with shock as they realised he had fallen straight into the deep concrete trench. Some supporters continued celebrating at first, not fully aware of what had happened.

The camera soon returned to Ghrieb as he climbed back up from the ditch. He smiled, raised his arms, and joined his teammates in celebration.Ghrieb’s goal was his third in the German second tier this season. It was also his fifth goal in all competitions since joining Magdeburg last summer. Earlier in the match, Alexander Nollenberger had broken the deadlock in the 74th minute with the opening goal.Despite the important win, Magdeburg still sit at the bottom of the league.

They have just 13 points after 15 games. The victory, however, gives them a fresh hope in their fight to avoid relegation. Hertha, who were relegated from the Bundesliga in 2023 after ten years in the top flight, are currently placed seventh out of 18 teams.This was not the first fall into the Olympiastadion’s ditch. During Euro 2024, a Poland supporter fell into the same area during the team’s match against Austria. That fan was briefly unconscious and had to be taken to the hospital with multiple injuries.
