Manchester United’s Harry Maguire was spotted in the streets of Mumbai having a kickabout with some of the kids that were around. The defender was in the city as part of a commercial commitment with the club alongside fellow teammates like Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana.

The English defender has had somewhat of a redemption arc amidst a disastrous season for the club as a collective as they finished trophyless after being beaten in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and also finishing the league in the 15th position as well.

After the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new manager of the club after sacking Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils suffered a horrendous end to their season, barely scraping above the relegation zone. They finished their league fixtures with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa to deny Unai Emery’s side a spot in the Champions League as they finished sixth in the points table.

Coming back to United, the club only managed to score 42 points from the 38 games in the domestic season. With 44 goals scored and 54 conceded, it remains their worst season in the English top-flight.

The club are already on their post-season tour of Asia, where they have two matches, including one with the Hong Kong national team. They have taken 32 players on the trip, which includes star players like Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and others.

The Red Devils are under big pressure to redeem themselves and will have a tough task of rebuilding with new players and departures of some of the older stars as well. But it remains to be seen if the 20-time Premier League champions can find their feet and get back to winning ways in the post-Ferguson era.

Amorim, who took over from Erik ten Hag during the season but failed to spark an improvement in performances, said his side of first-teamers and youngsters was “not really focused" in Wednesday’s loss, a friendly defeat in Malaysia..

“Everybody can feel it. But I understand the fans (booing), I understand the players and you also understand that we want to give something to the fans, but it’s hard in this moment," he said.

The 40-year-old Portuguese said he had learned that being Manchester United manager meant being “more than a coach".

“You have to improve as a person, you have to improve as a leader. Sometimes after the games you see I am frustrated, I am trying to control that.

“When you have results, you can manage everything so much easier," he added.

Heavy rain lashed the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium on the eve of the game and Amorim will be desperate not to have any fresh injuries to finish off the campaign.

“The weather looks like Manchester so we feel at home," Amorim joked.
