US-Iran Peace Deal: Scenes of celebration emerged across Lebanon on Sunday after Iran confirmed that its newly reached peace agreement with the United States includes an end to fighting on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Videos and images circulating from several parts of the country showed people gathering in streets, waving flags, honking car horns and cheering as news of the deal spread. The United States and Iran agreed to a peace deal and an “immediate and permanent" end to military operations after more than three months of war in the Middle East.

The agreement was first announced by mediator Pakistan and was later confirmed by both Washington and Tehran. An official signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19.

US President Donald Trump announced the breakthrough on social media.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete," Trump wrote.

Strait Of Hormuz To Reopen Friday

The agreement also includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran.

“I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.

“Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!"

For Lebanon, however, the most significant aspect of the deal was the commitment to halt fighting in the country. The announcement came just hours after Iran had threatened retaliation following an Israeli strike targeting Hezbollah in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a development that had raised fears the agreement could unravel before it was finalised.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi later confirmed that the deal brought an “immediate end" to the war between the two countries and said talks aimed at securing a broader settlement would continue over the coming months.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose government helped mediate the agreement, said: “Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon."

He also thanked the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for supporting the diplomatic effort.

The celebrations witnessed across Lebanon reflected a sense of relief among residents who have spent months watching regional tensions escalate. While questions remain about the long-term durability of the agreement, many in the country welcomed the prospect of peace after a prolonged period of uncertainty and conflict.
