Actor-turned-politician Hiraan Chatterjee posted pictures of himself marrying his private secretary, Ritika Giri, in Varanasi on Tuesday, before deleting them due to online trolling. His first wife, Anindita Chatterjee, has alleged he married again without legally ending their marriage.
The allegations gained traction as images of Hiraan’s wedding rituals went viral, raising questions about the marriage’s legality. He could not be reached for comment.‘How can this be legal?’Reacting to the viral photographs, Anindita said she had no prior knowledge of the ceremony and learnt about it through friends. “Hiraan has blocked me everywhere. I was at my store when friends started sending me screenshots of his wedding pictures,” she said, adding, “I am still his wife on paper. How can this be legal?”Married since 11 December 2000, the couple have a 19-year-old daughter, Niyasa.
Alleging years of harassment, she said she had stayed silent to protect their child but felt compelled to speak out after the incident. She added that, despite his political commitments, Hiraan continued to visit them whenever he had breaks from his constituency work in West Midnapore.
