Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Wednesday chaired a General Council meeting of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Mamallapuram — the first key huddle since the tragic stampede in Karur on September 27 that claimed 41 lives.
During the meeting, Vijay launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister M K Stalin and the DMK government, accusing them of attempting to blame him and his party for the Karur tragedy. He asserted that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections would be a direct contest between the TVK and the DMK, adding that “this fight is going to get intense in the coming months."
Obstacles we are facing are temporary, will shatter all of them, he said.
Vijay began his speech by expressing grief over the Karur incident. “We have been in inexpressible pain because of the loss of our family members in the Karur stampede. There has been so much misinformation and defamation against us. We will win everything with truth and law," he said.
The TVK chief also criticised the DMK government for allegedly imposing unfair restrictions on his party’s rallies. “We had to wait for several days to get permission for our rallies. The conditions imposed on us were unlike those faced by any other party. I have a few questions for our narrow-minded CM. Did the Chief Minister forget the observations made by the top court?" he asked.
Accusing the ruling party of losing touch with the public, Vijay added, “The people have lost faith in the DMK government. Does the CM know the sentiments of the people of this state? If he doesn’t, he will know in the 2026 polls. The CM can also keep his speech ready to accept the people’s mandate."
