The two shared a warm exchange as Gilchrist posted a selfie with Rohit and reflected on their first meeting nearly 17 years ago.

Taking to Instagram, Gilchrist wrote, “This bloke reminded me today it was standing on this very ground, the beautiful @adelaideoval, when we first met each other in 2008. It was just when we’d both been bought by the Deccan Chargers, in the very first @iplt20 auction. From there, a friendship was born.”The former cricketer also reflected on their contrasting career stages during that period. “An old bull leaving international cricket, partnering with a young bull on the rise to becoming one of India's greats.

@rohitsharma45 it’s been a pleasure to play against and with you, to observe you as a broadcaster and fan, and even better to know you as a mate,” Gilchrist added.

In an Instagram story, the duo shared their common roots at Deccan Chargers, as they sent a message to the fans. "Look who I found here! A Deccan Chargers war horse. What have got for our fans?" Gilchrist said to the camera with a hand over Rohit's shoulder. The duo then smiled and said, "Kepke to all of you."

Before the match began, Gilchrist joined Ravi Shastri for a pre-game chat on Fox Sports, where he again spoke about Rohit’s current form and attitude. “Oh, I gotta say, he’s looking and sounding very relaxed. He was reminding me it was on this very venue where we first met back in 2008, just after the IPL auction had taken place, and we worked out we were going to be teammates. It was the old bull and the young bull. I was on my way out of international cricket and he was coming in, but, no he’s keen to get out here,” Gilchrist said.Later in the day, Rohit backed up the nostalgic reunion with a solid performance on the field. Opening the innings, he top-scored for India with 73 off 97 balls, helping the visitors post 264/9 in 50 overs.
