Dhruvee Haldankar; with father Deepak Haldankar
Dhruvee Haldankar, known for shows like Pyar Ke Saat Vachan Dharampatnii, Devanshi and Saavdhan India, has turned author with a biography of her father, cinematographer Deepak Haldankar, titled Beyond The Frame Beyond Fear. “I have written a biography on my cinematographer father. The book captures the incredible escapades of his life — stories that are truly unforgettable,” she says. “My father, who was the Chief at Films Division, shot thousands of documentaries and newsreels covering Prime Ministers from Indira Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, Rajiv Gandhi and Gyani Zail Singh to Mr Narendra Modi, along with important national movements and delegations.
Through this book, I feel he has resurrected himself once again.” Deepak Haldankar began his career assisting the late Nariman A. Irani on films such as Talash, Maharaja, Balidan and Pakeezah. She adds, “Films Division and NFDC have now merged, and they hold thousands of films shot by my father in their archives. I feel deeply honoured that NFDC is respecting his legacy and contributions to Indian cinema. The book will be launched on March 6 at the NFDC auditorium. This will be a tribute to my late father and his craft. I have learnt a lot from him and whatever I am today, I owe everything to him.”
