Back during the 70th National Film Awards, announced on August 16, many fans were disappointed that Mammootty didn’t receive any recognition. His performances in several critically acclaimed films were widely praised, especially in ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’, but in a surprising twist, jury member and filmmaker MB Padmakumar later revealed the real reason behind all this.In an interview, Padmakumar clarified that none of Mammootty's films were actually submitted for the awards that year.

He pointed out that while people were blaming the government or the jury, the truth was that no entries featuring the actor were sent for consideration. He said, "The truth is that not a single film starring Mammootty was submitted for consideration this year.”"People are quick to blame the government, but the fact is that Mammootty’s films were simply not submitted. We need to ask who made this decision.” he added. He also expressed sadness over this missed opportunity, he said "The failure to submit such a remarkable film for consideration is a significant mistake. This was not just a loss for Mammootty, but for Malayalam cinema as well.” Despite having films strong enough to compete, especially ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’, they were never even in the race.
