Over time, the film helped establish his identity among audiences and earned him the nickname “Maddy.” Padma Shri R Madhavan R. Madhavan had once opened up on a personal memory from the early phase of his film journey. The actor spoke about how a simple travel experience during that period became one of the most meaningful moments of his life.In a 2024 chat with Travel+Leisure India, he shared that the time spent working on the film also aligned with important personal experiences for his family. According to him, the period stayed memorable not just professionally but emotionally as well.

He said, “The fact that me and my wife got to travel first class for the very first time in our lives. We were holding each other’s hands and looking into each other’s eyes and saying, oh! We are travelling first class.

This was one very unforgettable memory from the film,"

R. Madhavan explained that the memory stood out because it was not directly connected to fame or success. Instead, it came from a personal milestone shared with his family during a busy shooting schedule.

He described how such small experiences often remain with artists longer than professional achievements. For him, that travel moment became a symbol of a different phase in life. Although the film did not achieve immediate commercial success, it gradually became a cult romantic favourite.

Recognition with Padma Shri

In January 2026, Madhavan was named among the recipients of the Padma Shri, one of India’s most prestigious civilian awards.

He received the award at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. His family, including his wife Sarita and son Vedaant, were present during the occasion.Following the recognition, Madhavan expressed deep gratitude for the honour. He wrote on Instagram, "I accept the Padma Shri with profound gratitude and humility. This honour bestowed upon me is beyond my wildest dreams, and I receive it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength. This recognition is possible only because of the blessings of my mentors, the goodwill of my well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and above all, the grace of the Almighty.

Each of them has played an invaluable role in shaping my journey and guiding me towards this moment."
