Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe showered praise on record signing Nick Woltemade, who has hit the ground running in the Premier League since his arrival at Tyneside from Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
The German striker has netted 7 times in Toon colours, including his brace against Chelsea in the 2-2 stalemate against the sides in their previous PL outing.
“You can see that when he scores, he’s got a really good connection," said Howe.
“You can see the crowd are really happy for him and he’s happy to embrace the celebrations with the crowd," the Englishman added.
“I thought it was his best performance for the team on Saturday. I thought he played really well, especially in the first half."
“You saw his qualities returning for the team, really, in the sense that his linking play… he was dropping slightly lower on the pitch, he helped us build the ball through the thirds of the pitch, but most importantly when the ball arrived in the box, he was there," Howe said.
Newcastle will travel to Manchester to face Ruben Amorim’s United at the Theatre of Dreams, aiming to continue their strong performances against the Red Devils. The Toon Army is eager to add to their five wins out of the last six encounters against United.
Since their defeat to United in the 2022 EFL League Cup Final, Newcastle has secured four wins in five meetings.
United will be missing as many as eight players. This includes Casemiro, who is suspended, and Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs De Ligt, who are out due to injury. Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo, and Bryan Mbeumo are away on international duty at the AFCON.
United are currently seventh in the league with 26 points from 17 games this season, while Newcastle, with 23 points, stand 11th ahead of the game at OT.
