Adil Ahmed Rather, who had been working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, was traced using technical surveillance and mobile phone tracking.
Days after a Kashmiri doctor, Adil Ahmad Rather, was arrested for allegedly putting up posters supporting terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar, a major terror plot was unearthed in Haryana’s Faridabad on Monday after police recovered 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, assault rifles, and ammunition along with timers.
According to the police, Rather, who had been working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, was traced using technical surveillance and mobile phone tracking after investigators reviewed CCTV footage from several locations in Srinagar where pro-JeM posters were found on the night of October 27. The Srinagar Police registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) the following day and began identifying suspects.
Police said Rather was allegedly captured on video placing the posters in multiple spots across the city. Acting on the intelligence leads, a joint team from Srinagar Police, Saharanpur Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) raided a private hospital on Ambala Road, Saharanpur, where Rather had been employed, and arrested him on November 6.
Authorities confirmed that no prior criminal record was found against him in Uttar Pradesh. He was produced before a local Saharanpur court, which granted transit remand for his transfer to Srinagar for further investigation.
During the course of the operation, police also recovered a sophisticated firearm, which has widened the scope of the investigation. The source of the weapon and its intended use are now under scrutiny. A separate case regarding the weapon has been registered at Nowgam Police Station under provisions of the Indian Arms Act and UAPA.
Officials said the recovery of the weapon has prompted deeper inquiries into whether the accused had any direct or indirect operational links with JeM or other extremist elements.
Rather, originally from Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, is a postgraduate medical specialist. Investigators are now verifying his movements, financial transactions, and contacts during his stay in Uttar Pradesh to establish any possible network.
Rather’s arrest led the police to his fellow doctors, including Dr Muzzamil, from whose facility the explosives were recovered in Faridabad.
The gang’s objective, according to police disclosures, was to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and execute terror attacks across the country. They also intended to establish their own militant “tanzim" (organisation) aligned with the likes of Lashkar‑e Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed in the future.
Faridabad’s strategic proximity to Delhi, paired with storage options in semi-rural pockets such as Dhaouj, has been flagged by investigators as a tactical advantage, offering easy access to the National Capital Region while remaining relatively discreet.
