The Ponkunnam police have registered a case in connection with the death of an RSS worker, identified as Ananthu Aji, who took his own life after alleging sexual harassment at RSS camps.

According to officials, a case has been filed against Nitish Muraleedharan based on a video that surfaced on the victim’s social media page following his death. Official sources said the case was registered under sections related to unnatural sexual abuse, in accordance with legal advice obtained by the police.

Ananthu Aji, a 26-year-old techie from Kottayam, was found dead in a lodge at Thampanoor, Thiruvananhapuram, on October 9. In a video that surfaced on his social media page soon after his death, Ananthu alleged that he had been subjected to sexual abuse during RSS camps and that the ordeal had caused him severe mental distress over the years.

The accusations triggered discussions at the national level and led to widespread protests in both Kerala and Delhi.

In yet another video that appeared on his social media page a few days after his death, Ananthu also named Nitish Muraleedharan as one of his abusers. Following this revelation, DYFI workers took out a protest to a shop run by the accused and vandalised it. Nitish is currently absconding, the police said.

The case, registered under IPC 377 as the alleged crime had taken place two decades ago, was initially investigated by the Thampanoor police and later transferred to the Ponkunnam station.

The RSS, on its part, has also called for an impartial inquiry into the incident.
