A short circuit inside a running train has left people worried about their safety on public transport once again. The startling incident was reportedly captured by a passenger on the Padmavathi Express, which runs between Secunderabad and Tirupati. The video, widely shared on social media, showed the exact moment when a loose wire caught fire, causing panic among everyone on the coach.

The incident unfolded when two workers were called to repair a light on the moving train. As seen in the clip, they were seen taking videos of the faulty light and discussing it among themselves. After some time, they began repairing the light when it suddenly sparked a fire. While no major accident occurred, and fortunately no one was injured, people on the Internet have been calling the situation a serious safety hazard.

Senior Employee Rushes In After The Incident

The cause of the short circuit appears to be a minor technical fault, likely stemming from outdated wiring systems or faulty circuit breakers. Following the incident, a seemingly senior railway employee rushed in at the scene. He inspected the loose wire and decided to insulate the ends with tape rather than repair the light on the train, which was filled with passengers. Afterwards, the two workers covered the empty light holder with a sheet of paper.

The video was shared with the caption, “This video is reportedly from the Padmavathi Express, where a short circuit occurred during light repairs while the train was in motion. The Railways must deploy qualified technicians on board, as such an incident could have turned disastrous and set the entire train ablaze."

Internet Calls Out Indian Railways For Employing ‘Inexperienced’ People

In no time, the clip of the incident went viral on social media, and people emphasised that only trained and qualified technicians should handle such electrical repairs, especially when the train is in motion with passengers on board. Some also pointed out that this might have ended in a tragedy if a fire had broken out, as the entire coach was covered with curtains.

“When you get inexperienced pvt staff for 10k/m instead of well-experienced govt staff and call it a masterstroke," said one user.

“Proper tools, Equipment, Trained Electrician, Safety equipment, all of these are missing. You are expecting too much!!" mentioned another.

A different individual pointed out another major problem with the Indian railways, saying, “Rat infestation is a major problem in our railways. The main reason is poor public hygiene; many passengers throw food inside the coaches, turning them into dustbins."

“No expert wants to work for that salary. They always hire someone cheaper or through reservation," someone else penned.

Meanwhile, the official handle of Raliway Seva took note of the video and assured people that the matter has been escalated to the concerned authority for necessary action.
