Ranchi: The decks have been cleared for appointment of Bombay High Court Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak to take over the reigns of the Jharkhand high court as its Chief Justice.Present Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan would superannuate from service on January 8 next year.In a communique issued by the Supreme Court, it has been informed that a meeting of the collegium of the Apex Court was held on Thursday wherein the name of Justice Sonak of the Bombay High Court has been cleared for elevation as Chief Justice of the Jharkhand high court.Justice Sonak was born on November 28, 1964. He completed his school education from Don Bosco High School, Panaji, Goa.
He later graduated in science from Dhempe College of Arts & Science, and finished his LL.B. from M. S. College of Law, Panaji, Goa (affiliated to Bombay University) in First Class.He was awarded the Portuguese Language Diploma Award by Xavier Centre of Historical Research and enrolled as an advocate on the rolls of Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa in October 1988. He started his practice in the Panaji Bench of the High Court of Judicature, Bombay in civil & constitutional law, labour & service law, environmental law, commercial & tax laws, company law and public interest litigations.He was also the additional standing counsel for central government, special counsel for state government and statutory corporations. He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay on June 21, 2013.
